Green Commitment

At the core of our organisational culture is a steadfast commitment to sustainability and climate change education. Under the leadership of our Director of Estates and Sustainability, James Treble, our comprehensive environmental programme ensures that our central team and all Authentic Education academies actively pursue meaningful actions to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2030 - https://letsgozero.org/

Our sustainability initiatives encompass several key areas, including:

  • Exploring and implementing green energy solutions, supported by advanced monitoring systems to track utility consumption and facilitate continuous year-over-year reductions. We have installed Solar Photovoltaic (PV) systems across all estate locations, enabling us to generate our own renewable energy and sell any surplus back to the grid. This approach aims to minimise our environmental footprint and promote a sustainable future.

  • Advancing further environmental modifications such as the installation of LED lighting, energy-efficient heating systems, thermally insulated roofing, and enhanced solar glazing to reduce carbon emissions.

  • Engaging with our school communities by appointing Eco Champions within each academy. These champions support participation in the Eco-Schools Green Flag Accreditation  https://www.eco-schools.org.uk/ , fostering environmental awareness and delivering positive impacts on student learning and engagement.

Our ongoing efforts reflect our dedication to environmental responsibility and creating a sustainable future for all.

Making Good on our Sustainable Pledges

The Authentic Education Estates team is always looking for innovative and sustainable ways to respond to the evolving needs of our students. Our recent collaboration with PF Modular at LEAF Studio saw a 468 metre facility constructed off site, delivered in two days and handed over in five weeks.

Sustainability was at the core of this project, ensuring the new building is both efficient and environmentally responsible. Its features include:

  • A 5kW solar PV system on the roof to generate clean energy.
  • Air source heat pumps for efficient heating and cooling.
  • High-level insulation and automatic lighting to minimise energy consumption.
  • A 10% biodiversity net gain for the site, enriching the local ecosystem.

This new facility provides a modern and eco-friendly learning environment that aligns with our vision for a sustainable future.
